Natural gold in quartz is found in only a few locations around the world.  The site of the richest high grade ore mine in California history is the Original 16 to 1 Mine, located in the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains.

This very rare combination of Gold in Quartz occurred when natural veins of gold were forced into openings in the white quartz by hydrothermal pressure.

Buried deep in the earth, workers at the 16 to One Mine must use “hard rock” mining techniques to obtain the Gold Quartz ore.  Although the current strain is eventually being mined out, these industrious miners are still discovering spectacular specimens containing natural veins of gold in white quartz.

The gold enriched quartz from the Original 16 to 1 Mine has extraordinary white quartz and gold patterns. The specimens are cut into elegant inlay and cabochon stones and then set in 14 kt gold, creating exquisite pieces of jewelry.
